Work experience

Aug 2022 - Now
Engineering Manager, Platform, Fishbrain, Stockholm

This role saw me leading Fishbrain’s Platform team, which is responsible for the infrastructure supporting our client apps with over 16 million users, as well as helping to improve the architecture of those apps and the experience of developers working on them. I have led the growth of the team from one Infrastructure engineer to a cross-functional team of 6 infrastructure, backend, and mobile engineers. This is a hands-on role where I spend at least half my time working with technologies as diverse as Typescript, Ruby, Terraform, Docker, and more.

Notable projects:
Sep 2018 - Aug 2022
Engineering Manager, Web, Fishbrain, Stockholm

I joined Fishbrain as a Backend Engineer and worked for a few months with Ruby/Rails and Go before transitioning to an Engineering Manager/Full-stack Engineer role. I was responsible for starting and building out fishbrain.com, as well as growing and leading the team working on it. During that time I've worked heavily with Typescript, React, GraphQL, Express, Serverless, and SEO optimisation, as well as growing in my management and recruitment skills. We now have 3 product teams working on the web and over half a million unique monthly users.

Notable projects:
Nov 2014 - Jul 2018
Lead Web Developer, Klinify, Singapore

I joined Klinify, a medical application built on a Javascript/Python/CouchDB stack, as their first web developer, and eventually hired and led the team building and maintaining it. I was the lead developer on projects for companies such as Apple (clinic management software for employee clinics in Singapore), Microsoft (a prototype medical records app to help them enter the Vietnam market), and Asia Genomics (development of a web application to connect researchers with DNA donors). These various projects involved work on a wide spectrum of emerging web technologies, including handwriting and voice recognition, developing for situations with poor/intermittent internet coverage, and deploying applications across a diverse range of devices.
